January 14,2025 Update
Thank you very much for visiting the website for the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension.
The Department of Nephrology at the General Medical Center consists of the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension and the blood purification center which manages dialysis and dialysis shunts, but both divisions are operated in unison. We assume that a lot of people do not know what kind of diseases Nephrology handles. The main diseases are nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, kidney damage associated with diabetes, renal failure, hemodialysis, etc., but in addition to these, we have a wide variety of experience such as with electrolyte abnormality including hyponatemia and hypokalemia, heart failure, refractory resistance hypertension, hormone abnormalities (endocrine disorders), peritoneal dialysis, home dialysis, kidney transplantation, shunt surgery, and intravascular treatment for shunt failure, and have had excellent medical results. In particular, we have one of the leading medical records in Japan for renal disorders associated with hereditary polycystic kidney disease and collagen disease/vasculitis.
We also have the most experience in eastern Japan with kidney biopsies, which is an essential test in the diagnosis of nephritis or nephrotic syndrome and in deciding a treatment policy. In addition, since the Medical Center is one of the leading comprehensive perinatal, maternal and child care centers in the world, we have extensive experience in the management of kidney disease in pregnant women.
In addition, we have a wide range of medical facilities in the prefecture, mainly in
Kawagoe City and Fujimino City, and we have close cooperation so when the treatment
of acute phase is over, we can also introduce you to medical institutions near you,
who work with our department.
We will introduce patients who have started hemodialysis to maintenance dialysis
facilities that work in close cooperation with our department, and even after the
start of dialysis, we will treat complications and perform periodic examinations in
a responsible manner. We would like you to become acquainted with the content of our
clinic through this website, and we hope you will be able to receive a consultation
with confidence.
Information for patients is also posted on our unique classroom website, so please refer to it as well.
We recommend that you visit our department in the following cases:

Our department of classes consist of the Department of Nephrology and Hypertension, which is responsible of treatment for a variety of primary kidney diseases, hypertension, diabetes and collagen disease, renal lesions associated with vascular inflammation, hereditary kidney disease, etc. and a blood purification center that is responsible for hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, special blood purification therapy, and surgery and repair of shunt vessels and we have a system that diagnoses and treats kidney-related diseases comprehensively. As the largest kidney clinic in Saitama Prefecture, we are responsible for the medical treatment of kidney disease in the prefecture via the dispatch of physicians to medical facilities in the prefecture.
We would appreciate it if when the doctors in the area know of cases of renal dysfunction, urinary abnormalities (proteinuria and hematuria), hypertension, electrolyte abnormalities, edema, etc., they could refer these to us when you are not sure of the treatment policy. We will diagnose them accurately and quickly, and conduct the best treatment, and then reintroduce them to their doctor again when their condition has stabilized. We value the continued cooperation of the doctors at the local medical institutions, and we will conduct the medical care such that a patient who has consulted at our hospital will feel it was good to visit our department.
There are a wide range of areas where kidney physicians can be involved. However, there are not actually many kidney departments that are involved in all of the areas. The most important feature of this class is that it is extremely diverse, including diseases, academic disciplines, techniques, and therapies.
Rare cases that the doctors have experienced in our department, successful treatments for severe disease, valuable cases for dissemination of information, and educational cases, etc. are actively presented at the Kanto Regional meeting of the Japanese Society of Internal Medicine, the Eastern Regional Meeting of Japanese Society of Nephrology, and various research meetings in and out of the prefecture. We believe that the case presentation will be an opportunity to reflect on our own medical treatments, to reconsider the course objectively, and to cultivate young physicians effectively and critically. This is also a place where you can feel that the clinical approach is founded on basic medicine and basic science through case analysis. Tours are also welcome. We look forward to hearing from you.
