Introduction
The Department of Clinical Laboratory Medicine carries out laboratory examinations which are essential for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The Clinical Laboratory performs a wide variety of biochemical tests on various specimens. The Microbiology Laboratory receives samples from patients to identify organisms that are responsible for infection including bacteria, fungi, and parasites.
The Clinical Physiology Laboratory and Ultrasound Laboratory perform physiological function tests such as electrocardiogram, electroencephalography, and ultrasonographic examination. Please refer to the link below for details regarding each test.
Saitama Medical Center has received ISO 15189 accreditation which is an international standard specific to medical laboratories.

- Central blood collection room:
- The central blood collection room (2F) is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect blood and urine samples from outpatients. Please refer to the link below for details.
- Clinical Chemistry Laboratory:
- The Clinical Laboratory performs a wide variety of biochemical, hormone, and immunochemical tests of specimens including blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid.
- Morphology Evaluation Laboratory:
- The Morphology Evaluation Laboratory performs hematology tests, urine and stool inspections, cerebrospinal fluid inspections, etc.
- Bacterial and Genetic Laboratory:
- The Bacterial and Genetic Laboratory provides a wide range of diagnostics services in bacteriology, parasitology, mycology, and mycobacteriology, using a broad range of specimens. Antibacterial susceptibility tests for pathogens are also performed.
- Clinical Physiology Laboratory:
- The Clinical Physiology Laboratory performs electrocardiograms, respiratory function, and neurophysiological tests (electroencephalography, etc.) Please refer to the link below for details.
- Ultrasound Laboratory:
- The Ultrasound Laboratory performs an ultrasonographic examination of the abdomen, heart, blood vessels, thyroid, breast, etc. Please refer to the link below for details.
- Department of Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy:
- The Blood Transfusion Laboratory performs the laboratory test required to ensure compatibility with allogeneic blood products. Such tests include blood type, Irregular Antibody identification, and cross-matching (compatibility testing) of donor blood with the patient’s blood samples. The Cell therapy Laboratory harvests and supplies peripheral hematopoietic stem cells for transplantation.

- Lessons of diabetes education program including self-monitoring blood glucose measurement, and kidney education program.
