The method to register information for patients who have been diagnosed with or treated for cancer at a medical institution is called hospital cancer registration. The information to be registered includes the diagnosis details such as the location and particular type of cancer, treatment such as surgery and anticancer drugs, and surveys such as survival confirmation (prognosis). The information collected is utilized for the understanding and improving of the quality of cancer care in medical institutions through analysis and evaluation, provided to the regional cancer registration, which is conducted on a municipality basis, and aggregated nationwide at the National Cancer Center, Center for Cancer Control and Information Services.
