October 16,2024 Update
The pediatric critical care medicine at the Saitama Medical Center was inaugurated in the prefecture based on the Saitama Prefecture Community Regenerative Medicine Plan in March 2016 and was the ninth pediatric critical care medicine in Japan.
There was a shortage of consolidated bases for severely ill children patients nationwide in Japan, and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare started operations of the "pediatric critical care medicine Operation Project" in 2010. This facility was established based on this operation project. As of 2018, there are only 14 facilities nationwide, and it had become a facility with a high scarcity value.
There had been no facilities in the prefecture for receiving severe pediatric patients, and they were distributed to small-scale facilities. In fact, many critically ill patients were not able to be handled in the prefecture and were transported to Tokyo.
We plan to have 8 PICU beds and 8 HCU beds for a total of 16 beds consolidating such severe patients, and currently, the 8 PICU beds have started operation. All severe patients who are children are eligible, from newborns (weighing more than 2 kg) to puberty, regardless of whether it is internal medicine, surgical or traumatic diseases. The patients can be transported to us 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Since a medical helicopter is stationed at this center, it is possible to pick up and transport from the entire Saitama area in a short time.
We will be looking to pick up and transport all of the critically ill patients, 24 hours, 365 days a year, whenever there is a severe patient who is a child, regardless of whether it is internal medicine, traumatic disease, or surgical ailments. The following is the specific medical content.
Trauma patients account for a quarter of hospitalized patients. About 50% of the internal medicine diseases are central neurological disease such as acute bronchiolitis, pneumonia, bronchial asthma, or respiratory diseases such as ARDS and biphasic seizures.

Neurological disorder | 120 |

Although this facility was established for patient consolidation for children with severe illnesses, it is hard to know whether a child is severe, and it may become severe in a short time. Therefore, if you have a patient whom you wonder, "Is it serious?" or "Does it seem a bit dangerous?", we hope to hear from you whether or not you decide to transport them. Please contact us at any time so we can consider together whether it is better to transport.
Also, the target patients are from newborn (2 kg or more) to puberty. The disease does not matter. A severe child patient (or one who seems severe) will be accepted at any time. There is a shortage of NICU sickbeds in the prefecture now, so in order to compensate for this, please contact us at any time if you have troubles, because our center will support newborns who are more than 2kg. We also accept cases where the child has severe multiple handicapped and becomes severe.
Please contact us at any time because we perform transport 24-hours a day, 365-days a year. Since we have a medical helicopter stationed at this center, it is possible to pick up and transport from the entire Saitama area in a short time if it is daytime.
Thank you for contacting us at any time whenever you have trouble because we will come and pick up the patient anywhere there is a transport request.
