Professional Training Program

Greetings

30 years has already passed since Saitama Medical Center opened in Kawagoe in 1985 as the second hospital of the Saitama Medical University. Today it has grown into the largest hospital in the prefecture with 36 medical departments, 1,053 beds, and more than 400 physicians, and it has the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Medicine and the Center for Maternal-Fetal and Neonatal Medicine, each of them being one of the best facilities nationwide. Also, as a Regional Base Hospital for Cancer Treatment Collaboration, we are also focusing efforts on all areas of cancer treatment. Currently, our hospital is undergoing a large-scale ward renovation. In the future, it will not have a separate vertical organization, as we are promoting a medical center centering on organs and diseases. It is regarded as a medical facility that can respond to all kinds of diseases as a "Super General hospital" as one of the three hospitals in Saitama Medical University and plays a major role in research and education as a university hospital.

Because Saitama Medical Center is in Kawagoe, located in the southwestern part of Saitama Prefecture, with close proximity to the capital, it has the characteristic of supporting a vast medical area, both within the prefecture as well as including Tokyo and the surrounding area, being blessed with a multitude of cases. We are developing multifaceted medical treatments, from common diseases to highly specialized diseases and rare diseases, and from the local clinics to tertiary emergency. It is possible to receive training and practice in a specialized department under the guidance of a clinical training physician in all departments by taking advantage of the characteristics of such a hospital in the latter stage training at the Saitama Medical Center. In addition, we support latter stage training physicians (specialists) with appropriate measures centering on the Training Management Committee, dealing with the new specialist medical system. Most of the departments have been certified as core facilities and the other departments have many cooperative facilities both inside and outside the prefecture as cooperative facilities for University Hospital and International Medical Center, and it is possible to further broaden the scope of training as a clinician. We guarantee the status of the late stage trainee physicians as assistant professors (specialists, senior residents) for four years after the initial clinical training at Saitama Medical University. Therefore, professional training is possible during this time without economic worries, and if there is desire afterwards, you may also be able to continue your career as an assistant professor at Saitama Medical Center.

The basic philosophy of Saitama Medical Center is "To provide safe and high-quality medical care and aim to be a trusted medical institution in the region." We also make efforts towards the mission of the University Hospital, which is to focus on education, medical care and research, aiming to foster advanced healthcare professionals, and we encourage students to acquire specialized medical qualifications and PhD (medical) degrees. Aiming to acquire a specialty or a degree is also important because it means improving the individual's abilities. Takeda Shingen said, "People are castles, people are stone walls, people are the moat," but no matter how splendid the castle, the stone wall, and the moat we try to establish, it will not serve as a castle unless there is someone who is trusted. Each person who gathers in the castle called Saitama Medical Center is valued, and we aim to build a medical institution that is a better castle, by improving the level of the individual, along with the organization power and we would like to contribute to the development of local medicine and medical care.

As the largest medical institution in the prefecture, we sincerely welcome everyone who aspires to specialized training at Saitama Medical Center, aiming for the development of advanced medical specialists.
