Department of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery & Pediatric Surgery

April 6,2024 Update

Introduction

No one left behind
This is our tenet when we take care of our patients, and also colleagues. We pursue to provide the best medical care for each patient, no matter how sick the patient is. Further, we help each other to accomplish our goal.

Our department consist of two specialty groups, Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery and Pediatric Surgery, and pursue the following three themes beyond the groups.

  1. Precise diagnosis and optimal treatment strategy for each patient.
  2. Meticulous surgery to pursue curative surgery and prevent complications.
  3. Meticulous patient care to prepare all possible situations after the surgery
We always keep these three themes in mind so that patients can have surgery and treatment with peace of mind.

Patient care at our department

Our Competency - Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery

Comprehensive computer simulations for precise surgery
Though we are experienced surgeons, we should not place too much confidence on our experience and intuition. By comprehending the anatomical structure and measuring precise resection volume using a computed image prior to the surgery, we can perform safe and accurate procedure.
Advanced surgery for advanced cancer
Malignant tumors in the liver, biliary tract (gallbladder, bile duct), and pancreas sometimes diagnosed as inoperable due to the extension of the disease. We are actively treating patients who have been given up for surgery with our unique strategy using chemotherapy and transplant technology.
Pursuing the safety of laparoscopic surgery
We are actively conducting minimal invasive laparoscopic surgery. Our hospital is accredited as an facility for advanced laparoscopic liver and pancreas surgery.

Our competency - Pediatric surgery

Optimal surgical strategy for inguinal hernia
We adopt Laparoscopic surgery for hernia repair for girls because of its excellent cosmetic benefit. On the other hand, conventional open surgery is applied for boys to secure vas deferens and testicular arteriovenous vein under direct vision.
Conservative strategy for acute appendicitis
We adopt a conservative strategy for treating acute appendicitis. Briefly, antibiotics is administered first then schedule appendectomy. In case of appendicitis with perforation and/or abscesses, a strong antibiotic is administered first, and then decide whether to remove the appendix a couple of month later. Emergency surgery is considered for appendicitis which is complicated with pan-peritonitis and/or intestinal obstruction.
Laparotomy through the umbilicus for cosmetic benefit
We have developed a minimally invasive surgical method using flexibility of the children's abdominal wall for cosmetic benefit, and apply it for surgeries such as Hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, Meckel diverticulum, ovarian cysts, etc.
Surgery for Newborn and Infant
Our hospital has one of the world's leading neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and performs a large number of neonatal and infant surgeries. In addition, we are continuously working on the treatment of Biliary Atresia and Pediatric tumors by participating in the national registry for the biliary atresia and Pediatric tumors.

On the other hand, we treat appendicitis, which develops in the adult, up to the age of elementary school students, and we request the Department of Digestive Tract and General Surgery to treatment the junior high school students or older.)

Target Symptoms

Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Surgery
There are many cases where there are no symptoms for the diseases treated in the hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery area. In addition, there are many cases that start with general abdominal pain and back pain so please visit us depending on the discretion of your initial doctor.
Pediatric surgery
Bulging and swelling of the groin and the navel (bulges, lumps), enlargement of the scrotum (swollen), testicle is non-palpable (can't touch), swelling around the anus, abnormal position and shape of the anus, chest recess (dent), etc. (We are sorry but with the symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation, bloody bowel discharge, abdominal bloating, and jaundice, please consult a pediatrician first.)
