Palliative Care

September 2,2019 Update

What is Palliative Care?

The purpose of palliative care is to understand and mitigate the varieties of pain caused by the disease and treatment and to support the healing process of the person and their family from the aspects of both the mind and the body to the limits of life. It is to improve the quality of life of the person who is alive now while maintaining the various paces and respecting the thoughts of each individual.

It is one of the important processes to relieve symptoms such as pain and respiratory distress, but that's not the goal. It may play an important role in the support at the end of life, but there is a role that should be played in support of those who have got better through treatment and who are currently in therapy.

What is the Palliative Care team?

The palliative care team is primarily to provide palliative care for patients with malignant tumors and is a team that is working to provide better symptom relief in cooperation with the physician in charge of each department and the nurse. The team comprises doctors, nurses, pharmacists and medical social workers, and the visiting nursing station staff. Doctors are in charge of relieving pain (there are several physicians with different specialties in the group) and psychiatrists (mental clinic) relieve mental and emotional worries in a collaborative practice. A palliative care certified nurse leads other nurses and is in charge of the patient's care.

Method for consulting with the Palliative Care team

Regardless of the condition of the disease, please consult your doctor or the nurse in charge of your ward if you are hospitalized. If you are an outpatient, we will support you through outpatient palliative care so please refer to the outpatient items. We will provide continued care in cooperation with the consultation desk and the nursing specialist outpatient clinic located in the outpatient chemotherapy room on the 3rd floor. The doctor and the nurse in charge will not change. They will also support the family members. In addition, the hospital will cooperate with you regarding home support etc. when you leave our hospital and return home.
